More than 300 Ukrainians have registered for Lithuanian language training in two days

The number of Ukrainians wishing to participate in Lithuanian language lessons in the capital is growing rapidly. More than 300 Ukrainian adults staying in Vilnius have already expressed a desire to learn the state language.

„Language courses will help newcomers to feel better in our country. Not only the Lithuanian language skills are important, but also the opportunity to get acquainted with the local culture and establish new social contacts during such lessons,“ – said Tomas Gulbinas, Deputy Mayor of Vilnius.

On Wednesday, the lessons started for the first two groups of registrants – they are led by volunteer students of the Faculty of Philology of Vilnius University. The flows of the training groups are formed regarding the opportunities indicated in the registration form of the participants to participate in the offered terms and the foreign languages they speak (Russian, English).

“We see a great need to learn. The registrants are active, interested and very eager to learn the Lithuanian language. We are glad that we received letters from those who have experience in teaching the Lithuanian language and want to join the team of volunteers. As the need for training is really great, we invite you to write to those who want to volunteer,“ – Unė Kaunaitė, the director of the Vilnius Education Progress Center, invites to join the initiative.

Additional groups will start next week. They be taught by both volunteer students and teachers of Vilnius adult schools with many years of experience.

Ukrainians wishing to participate in Lithuanian language courses shall fill in this registration form. Registration is permanent, but preference will be given to those who register earlier.

Lithuanian language lessons take place at the Vilnius Night Hive (Vilniaus str., 22), Vilnius University (Universiteto str., 5) and adult schools. The registrants shall participate in all activities. The number of participants is limited. The lessons are free, and tools are provided.

Lessons for adults from Ukraine are organized by Vilnius City Municipality, Vilnius Education Progress Center, Vilnius University, Vilnius Night Hive and adult schools working in the municipality.
